Initial situation of the Cuajone mine

The Cuajone mine, one of the oldest mines in Peru, faced the challenge of modernizing its material transport system. This ambitious project, called “Improvement Modernization,” aimed to replace the old rail transport with a more efficient conveyor belt system. David Chamorro de Ita, an industry expert, sums it up: “The Cuajone mine is about 50 years old and one of the oldest mines in Peru. The process began with this project, which replaced the old rail transport with a conveyor belt to achieve higher production capacities and improved efficiency.” David Chamorro de Ita further explains that the feeder belt, with its impressive width of 2,800 millimeters, was the largest in mining at the time of the project. “It is still among the widest belts in South America. The feeder belt is not particularly long, but it is extraordinarily wide.”
